Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
Standard IV addresses the legal complications that arise with teaching. Educators need to make sure they are adhering to their institution's AUP, as well as abiding by copyright laws and ADA laws. I always include the sources for any images I use, and if I do not have the source I make sure to state it is not original work. I included the source of my PowerPoint information and the source of my video images at the end of each presentation. By including materials in a variety of formats, I addressed the ADA needs for equitable access to resources. The technology survey would also allow me to address any learner needs. The forum would give me a chance to model digital etiquette when I post responses to the student posts. Using a forum outside of Blackboard would also allow students around the world to engage with my students. My learning goal for Standard IV is to learn about more digital tools that can help me address all the different learning styles of my students.
- Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
- Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
- Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
- Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools
